Elevate your career over lunch! Join this exclusive event for Young Members and connect with experienced CBC professionals. Learn the "how" and "why" behind their career journeys and walk away with practical strategies you can apply to your own path.

Agenda:

9:00–9:20 | Welcome & Purpose Setting

  • Welcome participants and review logistics.
  • Discuss why mentorship is impactful within the construction industry.
  • Explain how this program differs from panels and lectures.
  • Set expectations for participation, confidentiality, and respect.

"Construction careers are shaped by decisions, relationships, and judgment. Today is about learning how those decisions get made."

9:20–9:35 | Mentor Story Circles (Whole Group)

  • Each mentor shares briefly (2-3 minutes) responding to prompt: Looking back now, what advice would you tell your younger self to support you in your career journey moving forward?


Group Mentoring Sessions (Four Rotations)

Emerging professionals will stay with the group at their table, while the established professionals will rotate to their next table. Each type of professional will have their own set of questions, listed below.

9:35–10:00 | Group Mentoring Session I

10:00–10:20 | Group Mentoring Session II

10:20-10:30 | Break

10:30–10:50 | Group Mentoring Session III

10:50–11:15 | Group Mentoring Session IV


Construction Management: How Construction Careers Progress

  • What factors have most influenced your career progression?
  • How do performance, visibility, and relationships each affect advancement?
  •  What causes careers to slow down or stall in this industry?
  •  When does it make sense to switch paths (field, office, leadership)?
  • Which skills have transferred well for you, and which have not?


Architecture/Engineering: Gaining Credibility

  • How do you build trust when you do not yet have formal authority?
  • What early‑career mistakes do you see most often?
  • How do you handle conflict constructively in technical roles?
  • What actions help a young professional earn respect quickly?
  • How do you navigate situations where your expertise is questioned?


Construction Management: Setbacks, Mistakes, and Recovery

  • What mistakes have you seen people recover from successfully?
  • What steps help rebuild trust after a professional setback?
  • How do you decide whether to stay or move on after a difficult experience?
  • What does accountability look like in a high‑pressure project environment?
  • How can emerging professionals manage fear of failure productively?

11:15–12:00 | Networking Lunch (Provided) 

Participants are invited to continue conversations and build connections in an unstructured setting over a hosted lunch. Use this time to follow up on insights from the morning's mentoring sessions, exchange contact information, and begin building the lasting professional relationships that define a successful career in the AEC industry. Come as you are and leave with more than you came with.
